Archaeological Museum of the Populonia Territory – Piombino (LI)
The Archaeological Museum of the Populonia Territory is set up in the Palazzo Nuovo, inside the Citadella in the town of Piombino. The museum is closely linked to the Archaeological Park of Baratti and Populonia and illustrates the evolution of the territory and the use of its resources, first of all mining. There are also finds of other origins, such as those coming from a Roman ship, wrecked in the 2nd century BC. in the Gulf of Baratti. Among the most unusual items the complete kit of a physician traveling on the ship. Particularly valuable is a silver anvil dating to the end of 4th century AD. And the Fish Mosaic (1st century BC). In the museum there is an experimental archeology center, specialized in ceramic and stone processing. Guided tours are available.
