The tradition of grape growing and wine production in this land dates back to the Etruscan period. It is said that Pliny the Younger loved a white wine named “Etesiaca” produced in Cortona, and Paul III did great wine supplies produced by these vineyards. The Basilica Cafaggio farmhouse will be pleased to welcome all wine lovers and all those who want to visit us to know our estate, visit our cellar and discover our wines
A trip to over 600 years of history
The origins of the Cafaggio estate in the Middle Ages. The first document attesting the presence of Cafaggio is dated 1408, as is shown by a precious parchment preserved in the company’s archives. Then the estate was called “Cahago”, which means enclosed field or cultivated field. The documents indicate that at the end of the 15th century the estate was owned by the Benedictine monks in Siena, before passing into the hands of various owners, including the famous Florentine family, the Niccolini. In modern times the property was sold to the Florentine hospital of Santa Maria Nuova and the documents attest that the farm was already producing a wide variety of foodstuffs, including wine and oil. Thus comes to the 19th century, Cafaggio passed to the Boddi family. At the end of the 1960s the estate was purchased by the Farkas family, who decided not only to restore the cellars but also to re-plant vineyards and olive trees. From 2014 the company is in the availability of ISA S.p.A. (Istituto Atesino di Sviluppo S.p.A.) holding company based in Trento.

Located just a few kilometers far from the historical town of Montepulciano, among sweet hills and endless vineyards, the Cantina Priorino is a modern winery where you can taste the best wines of the area. The Priorino Winery was born in 2011 from the passion for good wines of its owners. At the beginning he build a small cellar and after he bottled its first IGT red and white in 2015. The first bottles of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano followed by the high quality IGT SuperTuscan, the real flagship of the Priorino Winery. Its high quality products are the result of the typical careful making process of an artisan workshop.
Passion, quality and craftmanship: the three keywords of the Priorino Winery, which you’ll discover right at the first tasting. Quality is the main feature: a careful selection process goes on trough every phase of the production of our wines. Using the most natural treatments possible, Jacopo and his coworkers are delivering the best possible product. Every single bottle of wine is a unique and precious creation, the only possible result of a dedicated, passionate work. This is what makes the real difference.
WINES
The wine production involves 6 hectares of land, with a preference for Sangiovese, the grape from which Vino Nobile is made. There are also rows of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc. Every single bunch is the precious fruit of a fertile ground, to be grown and worked to make a wine of quality.
Viola
Vino Nobile di Montepulciano “Viola “is the flagship for the Cantina Priorino, produced by 100% Sangiovese grapes, chosen and picked by hand. The production process is meticulously studied guaranteeing quality: grapes are carefully chosen both in the vineyard and on the sorting table and left to ferment in French and Slavonic oak barrels. Once the grapes are separated, they are refined for 20 months in specially produced 5hl Oak tonneau and then prepared for bottling. The result is a wine with intense smell, characterised by hints of amarena, blackberry and forest fruits, floral scents of violet.
Solarina
Solarina is a blend of Chardonnay (80%) and Pinot Blanc (20%) which give it features of elegance and strength. The wine presents itself with a pleasant straw-yellow to green hue, and will strike you with its flavours of peach, hawthorn, lime and dried fruit.
Fonte al Giunco
This wine è made in a place where the ground is rich of minerals and gives to the wine its unique flavours. Composition: Cabernet Sauvignon (55%), Merlot (12%), Petit Verdot (10%), Cabernet Franc (20%). These grapes give its rich ruby and crimson hues to this wine, which presents flavours of cherry, red rose, geranium, leather and mediterranean scrub.
