Castle of Bibbione

The Castle of Bibbione is a beautiful farmhouse located in the Chianti hills near the town of San Cascino in Val di Pesa and thirty minutes from Florence. The castle includes a complex of rural buildings grouped around a massive building dating back to the 10th century, which in the past was a medieval fortress built by the Cadolingi of Montecascioli and still retains part of the original architecture. In fact, on the facades you can see the different phases of the construction and also part of the walls. In the 15th century, the military buildings were gradually dismantled and the castle became a stately home. In 1511, Niccolò Machiavelli bought the castle and the farm, using it as a hunting lodge. Currently, the structure is managed by the family, Rangoni Machiavelli. An interesting feature of the Castle of Bibbione is an underground passage, certainly used during sieges, which winds for hundreds of meters up to the plain of the river below.

The castle includes a medieval village and elegantly renovated old houses of the XIII century located along the slope of the hill, whose lands reach the underlying Via Cassia between Florence and Siena. In addition, the Castle of Bibbione has elegantly renovated apartments, a wellness center, a villa with private pool and of course a spectacular panoramic view of the Tuscan countryside.

APARTMENTS

The Castello di Bibbione farmhouse has 15 apartments that can accommodate two to six people. The apartments, furnished in authentic rustic Tuscan style, are equipped with all comforts. The apartments have terracotta floors and ceilings with exposed wooden beams. They also have a bathroom with a spa bath or shower, a dining area and a fully equipped kitchenette. In addition, the farmhouse has a villa with capacity for 12 people – villa “Il Poggio” located in a place with beautiful views of typically Tuscan vineyards and olive groves. The Castle of Bibbione is the perfect place to organize ceremonies and events. The structure offers a splendid panoramic terrace ideal for weddings and aperitifs with unforgettable sunsets over the Chianti hills. Also you can take advantage of the small Romanesque church of Santa Maria in Bibbione located in the village at the foot of the castle for wedding celebrations. The castle has a charming courtyard and a loggia where you can dine outdoors in the summer evenings or the inner rooms of the castle are ideal for weddings in the winter months.

The various spaces of the castle are also an ideal place for business meetings, showrooms and various events. The castle is made available exclusively for a single reception a day. The Castle of Bibbione makes use of the collaboration of excellent catering in Florence and specialized organizers.

FARM PRODUCTS

The Farm of  Bibbione covers an area of 100 hectares cultivated with Chianti Classico and IGT vineyards, olive groves and arable land. Bibbione Castle produces extra virgin olive oil and Chianti wine, and organizes wine tastings. The main wines produced from Sangiovese vines are: Monte dei Sassi IGT Toscana, Fattoria di Bibbione Chianti Classico DOCG and Castello di Bibbione, the latter with maturation of 24 months in Slavonian oak barrels. The wines of Castello di Bibbione have received various prizes at the World Competition in Brussels: Gold Medal Douja d’Or – Douja d’Or. Also recommend the vinsanto of the Chianti Classico Fattoria di Bibbione and the Marchesi Rangoni Machiavelli Extra Virgin Olive Oil obtained from hand-picked olives..
