5 reasons to visit Tuscany in Spring

Spring is my favorite time of year in Tuscany. One morning you wake up to find that all the blossom trees and blooming, bees are buzzing and you can put your winter coat away for another year. This is the time to enjoy the first warm rays of sunshine, eat a gelato, taste seasonal fruit and vegetables, go for a walk and watch how nature awakens and comes to life again.
If you want to explore the land, the cities, medieval villages, museums and all the other wonderful things Tuscany has to offer, Spring is definitely the best time of the year.

The weather is nice

The weather and temperature are nice during the spring months. In the second half of March, it’s not uncommon to have temperature reach 20°C in the afternoon and if you come in May make sure to pack a pair of shorts because you will need them. During July and August it gets really hot and exploring the cities is a lot less fun under a scorching sun and temperatures over 35°C.

Spend less on flights and lodging

Another good reason to come to Tuscany in the spring is that flights to Florence and Pisa are usually cheaper. Whether you prefer to stay in a city or the countryside, it’s not high season yet, and you can find some good offers on hotels, B&B, vacation homes, and agriturismo.

Fewer tourists means more fun

One of the big advantages of exploring Tuscany in the spring is that there are fewer tourists around than in the summer. That means you can move around more freely in cities like Florence, Siena, Lucca and San Gimignano, take better photos of the monuments and enjoy your visits to museums more. It’s still a good idea though to book tickets online in advance to skip the lines at popular museums like the Uffizi and the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence.

Guided Tours for every taste

A relaxed way to discover Tuscany is with a guided tour. An expert guide will take you to the most beautiful places. Shows you off the beaten path hidden gems and tells you everything you want to know about the monuments and rich history of this land. Besides cultural tours, you can also choose to do a wine tasting tour and visit the best wineries in Tuscany. For lovers of the outdoors, there are guided hiking trips, bike, and horseback riding tours. Or you can try something really different and explore Tuscany by quad, Vespa, in a legendary Fiat 500 or even by hot balloon.

Explore hidden gardens

Spring means flowers, green leaves and the fresh smell of new life in the air and where to better experience that than in the many gardens of Tuscany.
Every year in May the Italian Association for Historical Residences organizes a special day where 82 private residences open their doors and gardens to the public. This is a unique opportunity to discover some of the most beautiful private gardens in cities like Florence, Siena, Pisa and Lucca and the surrounding countryside.
The Open Day take place on May 21st, 2017. The program will be published on the ADSI website.
